Sailboat Rigging : This is a two-day introductory rigging class designed for students who would like to have a better understanding of the mechanics of the mast, standing rigging and associated systems on a sailboat. In this class we will lower the mast on a Catalina 27, inspect and evaluate all parts of the mast and boom. We will replace the standing rigging and any structural components as needed. We will repair or replace the running rigging’s worn lines, blocks and sheaves. The light fixtures, radio antennas and internal electrical wiring will be checked for damage or corrosion and repaired. With the mast down we will pull and inspect the chain plates and cabin top mast step. This class will be three Saturdays starting at 9:00 am and ending at 4:00 with a break for lunch. The first day we will lower the mast, inspect and evaluate its components and systems and disassemble as needed. Next we will develop a list of materials to order. The second day we will remove and inspect the chain plates and mast step. Then the process of reassembly starts. The last day of this class the standing rigging will be attached to the mast and the chain plates will be reinstalled and the mast raised and tuned.
